Types of Pool Filtration Systems Explained

Filtration is the heart of a healthy pool. The right system depends on pool size, bather load and how hands-on you want maintenance to be.

Overflow (deck-level) type

Also called a deck-level pool: the waterline sits flush with the edge and spills into a perimeter overflow channel, balanced through a dedicated tank. It gives the cleanest surface water and a seamless look.

Skimmer type

A skimmer draws water from the pool to the pump and filter for cleaning and disinfection. The water sits roughly four inches below the edge, leaving a small gap between the coping and the waterline.

Pipeless filter

Also known as a wall-hanging filtration system, it needs no plant room or complex piping. An inbuilt unit combines pump and filter for simple installation, operation and maintenance — ideal for smaller and prefabricated pools.

Beyond the filter

Pair filtration with UV, ozonation or a Quantum photocatalytic purifier to cut chemical use, and automatic dosing to keep the water perfectly balanced with minimal effort.
